Produttori del Govone, producers of Terre Sabaude Barbera D’Asti, was founded in 1957 as a small farm cooperative that has now grown to 200 active members. Situated on the left bank of the Tanaro River between Asti and Alba, the town of Govone has a glorious history. Additionally, its position, the meeting point for the prestigious wine zones of Langhe, Roero, and Montferrato, has made Govone a village well-suited for wine production. The company cultivates 300 acres, with its flagship being the Barbera grape.
Gavi, also known as Cortese di Gavi, is an italian white wine produced in Italy’s northwestern Piedmont region, close to the Ligurian border. This wine became a DOC in 1974 and upgraded to its DOCG classification in 1998. The name derives from Gavi, the town at the center of its production zone, and Cortese, the local variety of grape from which ti is exclusively made. The wine’s existence is reported from the 1600s.
The taste profile includes a full, delicate, and elegant bouquet of notes of flowers and fresh citruc fruits on the nose. A mid-bodied palate, soft and luscious with an agreeable slightly bitter finish. Enjoy this wine now, serve chilled as an aperitif or with hors d’oeuvres and fish dishes. This is a perfect summer wine!
Cortese Grapes: This white grape produces wines in the appellations of Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato, Colli Tortonesi as well as the DOCG wine of Gavi di Gavi. Cortese is a native grape variety of Alessandria in Piedmont and tends to perform best in the hills between Novi and Tortona in Piedmont. The grape has been so successful in Gavi that it is known there as Cortese di Gavi. Typically produces wines that are pale lemon-white in color, possess a fine fragrance and are steely and dry on the palate.
